Shocked

I remembered, last year when someone told me they wash their running shoes I was shocked!!! I'm like you wash your running shoes!! and she is like yea why not? Just that I've never heard anything good said about washing your running shoes. With $85.00 to $95.00 per pair who would want to take the chance that they just won't fit the same again!!.

After numerous runs ending in soaking, squishy, smelly sock and shoes, that have to be placed outside on the steps each time. I could no longer take it although I am currently alternating between two. This year is no different from any other summer and I was not ready for new shoes . I took a chance and put them in the washing machine on Sunday and you know what!!! they came out looking new again and smelled wonderful. I could actually put them to my nose. I let them air dry outside. This morning I ran in them and they felt great I would say even better than before !!

Happy feet on the road again :)

Wuhu! There was once an article on this somewhere, but I can't remember the conclusion.
Happy non-stinky runs to you!

Great post - I am so doing this!! My rain shoes reak!! I figured it was from them getting wet, but it might be the icky water it was in... I'm washing mine this week! They look pretty from the rain, but they smell something awful.

I have always washed my shoes and have never had any problems. They usually fit a bit tight the first time, but once I run in them they are good as new. Glad you discovered this, but experts still probably will not recommend it.

I know that I have read that if you wash running shoes in the washing maching, it breaks down the midsoul cushoning...but those could be the same people who tell you that you need to change your oil every 3,000 miles and you should pay 2-months salary for an engagement ring.

I'm actually surprised you need to wash your running shoes. I was so sure that you would wear them out with all your mileage long before dirt had a chance to find them. ;-)

Washing shoes? What a concept. My never last long eneough to think about washing them, but I have several old pair I use for banging around that could use a good wash.

Thanks for the tip.

after a really muddy, dirty run, i've washed mine in the sink - with a toothbrush & some dish soap. ok. the toothbrush thing makes me look a little obsessive. but they were all sparkly & clean!
