Norwalk 11miler

I almost did not make the race this morning. When I first open my eyes the clock said 6:15, I turned over and said "I don't have to get up until 7:00. The next time I looked at the clock it was 7:39 the race starts at 8:00. It was a mad dash to get out the door. Finally, (did I tell you that I'm only about 10 mins from the start) I got on the highway figuring I'll do a quick zippy do da on the highway....Traffic Jam!!! No way I could not believe 7:49, I was still on the highway in traffic!! Panic set in. I got to the race just as they were walking out to the start. I was able to find parking right away. I had to pick up my race #, I was pinning my # I heard the horn blow, they were off. I started behind the pack which was ok with me. For the most part I felt great out there. I wore my MP3 player so I did not pay much attention to my time I felt I was going at a decent pace and I felt great. I had decided, since I was late and because I'm doing my long run on Sunday I would not push it too much. My time was the slowest I've had for this course and I've been thinking about it since. I felt good, I was feeling very strong, I felt that I was going faster than I really was. This was a really weird experience. On Friday I did 6.7 miles only because I remembered I was running the 11 miler on Saturday. I'm proud that I did not balk on any of the hills, and there were a lot more than last week.

21 minutes from bed to the start line ... not too bad. I always get to a race an hour before the start time to give me time to calm down (and warm up).

You ran a 9:38 pace over 11 miles starting at the back of the pack. I don't imagine that you had anyone around you running at whatever pace you were expecting which may have led you to believe that you were going faster than expected. But 11 miles is 11 miles. With the lower pace, you'll probably feel great on Sunday and have a fabulous long run.

I am still here!  Ended 2021 strong.  Felt good and was back in the best shape I've been in a while . Went back to the office June of ...
