Thanks everyone for your marathon wish. I found this race quite by accident, I was happy it were for a good cause. I love running long on Saturdays, my favorite day to run a marathon. The New Jersey Shore Relay distance run was a more difficult run than I'd expected. This was the first year they let individuals run the full 26.2 miles.

I missed registration so I emailed the race director more than once. I was happy to see this response "Dawn if you are desperate to run we'll let you in". I got registered and was happy.

Lets just say I did not get to bed until 1:30AM Saturday and had to be on the road by 4:00am to make the 6:45 bus to the start of the race, a 2 hour drive.

We started in different groups. I was an 8:30 start. The course took me by surprise , in and out of the board walk, we ran along streets that were open to traffic, across a field , across gravel and the endless board walks, the last three miles was all board walk almost killed me. After my first three miles I knew it wasn't going to be pretty. My only goal was to finish what I had started.

My finish time was 4:41 I had to fight for that because they had me in the system with an 8:00AM start!!! after many emails my time was finally adjusted correctly. I must say the course is very scenic, but honestly I would not pick a boardwalk to run a race. I think my idea of running the shoreline would be running along not on the beach for 26.2 miles!!!

have a great week everyone and for those that did Boston YOU ROCK!!!

wow dawn - running the entire relay distance was so cool! even more amazing, sounds like the logistical stuff, getting in and getting the result corrected was tougher than the running ;)

last year i lucked out by emailing the rd for lake placid after it had closed. he let me in b/c there had been a few cancellations!

Nice job finishing that race. Sounds like it wasn't the best marathon ever put together. I've done a few races like that, too.

Running on a boardwalk for three miles doesn't sound fun at all.

I know that boardwalk and have run it many times.... I grew up in Monmouth County of NJ...a few towns over in Belmar!!

Running the boardwalk actually was less pounding for me then pavement and has a bounce feel :-)

Chalk up another great Race Dawn and I am glad u got in and ran it...BIG CONGRATS!!

YOU are such a dedicated runner, very inspirational to me...thanks!!

Love your "in for a penny, in for a pound" attitude. You got 'er done, in a nice time for the strange course.

You told Christie that you run in skirts sometimes. My former running buddy usually ran in skirts and did a review of them. Maybe you'd find it ineresting. http://www.runwashington.com/productreviews/productreviewskirt06.html

Congrats Dawn!

I can honestly say that "You Rock!". As always, I am so impressed by the way you just get things done. You are a problem solver and there are far to few people like that in this world.

Congratulations again on a great time.

Way to go, Dawn! Sounds like a varied course. I have run some marathons with stretches on a boardwalk, but short stretches. Three miles is a long way on a boardwalk.
