Darien Road Race 10K

I did this, The Darien Road Race today, my sixth year doing this race. For a few years the race was either after the 30k Fall Frolic that afternoon or the next day after the Norwalk Half. Since I'm always in the middle or towards the end of marathon training I take the opportunity to use it as a training run.

This year the Norwalk Half was last Saturday and the 30K fall frolic is next Sunday so my only fault this year was running a semi-long run on Saturday. Why don't I ever remember these courses until I run them again. Because if I do remember I probably would not run them again. I can't believe for two years I ran the 30K in the morning then did this same 10k in the after noon just a few hours apart. There were three good size hills. You start the race going up a hill!!! No kidding here is the course map My garmin record 6.43 miles@8:33pace my time was 54:56 final results said I did 6.2miles @ 8:50 pace. Here are my splits there was only one that I went over 9.

1-8:11 with the monster hill .50 stretch after hill
2-8:24 I know we some how double back with a nice down hill but it didn't' last
3-9:18 another hill hidden in there
4-8.14 once over the hill easy sailing down
5- 8:50 last mile with a hill
6- 8:30 straight ahead long stretch
.43 7:59 the gu I hit at 5.5 finally took!!

Not my best 10K but it did bring back some confidence. Next weekend I do the 30k I will not do any heavy miles the day before. I'm listening.

Have a great running week everyone, Again I will be fitting it in the best way I can.

Dawn, I don't know how you manage these hilly races. I am a wimp. Congratulations on the return of your confidence. If I turned out that 10K time, I would throw a party followed by a shindig.
Have a great running week!

I'm so glad you've regained your confidence. Great job on the 10K and --and best of luck with the 30K! That's a distance I've never tried.
