I was Tag: by Frank and most recently by Jim

Copy the rules (or your version of them) and the set of questions onto your blog post, provide your own answers and then tag 5 new people. If tagged, you’ll find your name at the end of this post. To be sure everyone tagged knows they’ve been invited to play, go to their blogs and leave them a comment notifying and referring them to your blog for details. Lastly, once the chosen have answered the questions on their own blog, they should come back to yours to tell you.

1. How would I describe my running 10 years ago?

Dormant: married, boys were 10 & 5, going to school and working full time. At this point I was more of a gym junkie. With both boys I gain over 50lbs. Each time I lost was because of hours in the gym. What got me back to the love I lost almost 17 years earlier my last huge weight gain, stress, work, school. I remembered saying the only way I will get the legs I want is by running (now I'm saying the same thing again) So It all started again at the Y on the treadmill. I would spend 1 hour on the stepper and another hour on the treadmill gradually I started moving it outside and building on that. I first discover my love of running when I was 18 in the Army I was with a group of soldiers at Fort Riley,KS that raced every week. Who would have thought it would have taken me so many years to get back to my first love. Yes at the tender age of 35 I was back!!! and it would be another year before I emerged myself in the race scene.

2. What is your best and worst run/race experience?

My best race experience was also my worst experience: This had to have been the first time I did the More marathon. I was so excited, a women's only marathon. This was one of the few races the whole family came to. I felt great when we started to do loops around central park. March 2004, so this would be my 3rd marathon. I thought this would be my PR marathon I was sure that I was on my last loop of the race looking at really huge PR when someone running by me said we have another loop to go don't we? Should I have listen to her to this day I still wonder did I do an extra lope that year.

3. Why Do I run?

I run because I love running, when I first, OMG, yes I do remember being faster, but I was only 18. I remember my PT test in the Army with times of 12:? to 13:? for 2 miles . When I went to races I would place. I love running then because I could, because I was fast. When I first started back then I love running because I could and I wished over and over I had started in high school . When first started it was nothing to for me go out on the weekends and run for hours, sometimes even calling my husband to pick me up because I went too far and there would be no way I could make it back in time for this or that. The first year of I started really racing again, 2003, as you can see on the right side of my blog, most of my PR's landed in that year . I always felt I could do more and I could run faster I always felt I was on the verge of a break through. When I did my first marathon in October 2003 I was really disappointed. I just felt I should have been faster. So that same year I went to Philly, mile 17 I had to quit I was hurt My first ever hurt, my first ITB, I prayed to God every day to please allow me to run again . I believe this was when I decided I want to be life long runner. No run for me and me alone, for comfort, for clarification , for mind body and soul. Running makes me feel good and I always want to feel good.

4. What is the best or worst piece of advice that you've been given ?

My best advice, never ever give up to this day I've stuck to that. I don't think that I've ever been given bad advice. I've been told to rest before a race, I've been told you run too many miles. When people tell me to rest before a race and when I do listen it is when I do my worst. When people say I run too many miles I say I'm not running enough. I think we all know how our body works we know what is best for us. I have accepted the fact that I will never be an Olympian, at the front of the pack, but I will do my best to be the best back of the packer I can be as long as I'm out there doing what I love to do that is all that matters now and I want to be doing it for a very long time.

5. Tell us something surprising about yourself not many people would know:

That I still have not decide what I want to be when I grow up.

at the end of your post, tag five people, post their names, and leave a comment on their blogs with the good news about the tag. when they've answered the five questions, they should, in turn, tag five more bloggers.

you probably did run an extra loop. You couldn't have been off by that much.
I like how you describe running and running for you, for your own comfort. That is why I run. After being diagnosed with NHL, running became my passion.

Dawn --I loved your answers! It's often when you first get into racing that you set most of your PRs (for you, 2003)...interesting that you started running so long ago, were really fast, an then got out of it!
Well, I am glad that you got back in and are running in so many races -you may not be setting records, but that is not why we (us normal people)run and race. I agree with you that one must listen to one's body as different training works for different people -I have run some of my est races on high mileage! and some of my very worst when i rested all week. I was tagged by Frank and will write up the questions in next couple days -are you running in Fairfield? If so see you there!

I dig your answers, especially "I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up". Me either! I hear it is never to late to be the person you hoped to be :) So there is time. What is your next marathon?

My first year of racing, 2001, contained most of my PRs. 5K, 10K, 4 mile, 2 mile. But then I learned to run long so I set my PRs in 2006 or later in the longer runs, Marathon, 10 mile, 8K, 5 mile, etc. I can get close to, but haven't passed, those short fast times of seven years ago.

I am still here!  Ended 2021 strong.  Felt good and was back in the best shape I've been in a while . Went back to the office June of ...
