Mystic Marathon

4:34 2005 (My 9th)
4:12 2004 (PR) 2004
4:26 2003 (my 1st Marathon)

Don't look like this will be my year for a Marathon PR. The race was good today. Weather was better than expected except for the wind. Did worst than I did in Hartford but my splits were better this time around.

Reflection on my times. I believe that not doing track work since July (boys football began) and no strength training since then have a great deal to do with my results. I will not dwell on this I'm looking to the future. I still have a few more years to meet my goal of qualifying for Boston before I'm 45. ( 3:50) I've done 4:12 and 4:17 so I don't think this is impossible to accomplish.

I did pretty well the GU today. One gulp and it was down. I'm becoming an expert at drinking on the run also. All these things seemed pretty natural today.

Today I found out something. The last mile of this marathon is the loneliest of all and this is the first time I noticed.

What I've learned for the future: If I want to PR or Qualify for Boston Get a plan and follow thru.

Thank you to all that wished me luck today. Special thank you to Susie and Dawn aka Pink Lady.

Hey, small world! Even smaller considering we were within 5 minutes of each other at the finish!

It wasn't the last mile that struck me as lonliest, but the long stretch from mile 21 to 22, in the wind, and coming up the hill onto 156 for the last bit there. The race crew was just starting to move the cones from the center line to the shoulder as I came across - crushed me emotionally.

You will do Boston, I have no doubt.

Congrats on finishing. That's an awesome time, even if its not a PR. Boston would be cool. Maybe I can qualify when I'm like 80..lol.
